Founded:1874, Pop.:565, Elev.:1533 feet. Goessel is located in the Central Region of the state, in Marion County. North of Newton along Highway K-15 near the Cottonwood River. The flat black earth around Goessel is among the world's greatest producers of wheat, in particular the hearty hybrids able to withstand the Midwest winter. The city park; West Branch Park and the Mennonite Heritage Museum are local attractions. In 1898 The Bethesda Hospital Society was formed, the first Mennonite Hospital in North America. It continues today in the form of the Bethesda Home. Unique events include: - Threshing Days, 1st week of August.
