The county's history includes the violence of cowtown wickedness, dynamic railroad activity, and prosperous settlements of "Turkey Red" wheat farmers - many of them Mennonite immigrants from Europe. The entire county slopes gently to the southeast, providing some of the best soil for crops in the state. Harvey is one of the best-watered counties in the state. The great Arkansas River flows through the SW corner, while the Little Arkansas enters the county from the north and flows SE.
