Founded: 1885, Population: 3708 (2000), Elevation: 3111 ft. Hugoton is located in the Southeast Region of the state, in Stevens County, (County Seat). Situated at the intersection of US Interstate 56 and County Road 51, the town is served by the Cimarron Valey Railroad. The nearest river is the Cimarron River to the north.
A prosperous town, Hugoton's economy is based upon the agricultural and natural gas industries. Pheasant hunters flock here to bag a bird, there's also deer, elk, turkey, quail, and dove hunting. A local, annual event is "The Longest Tail feather Contest". The town also sports a theater, a municipal golf course, municipal swimming pool, several city parks and 8 baseball fields.
