Located in scenic East Region, Osage County, with rolling hills, mixed grasslands, cropland, forestlands, great appeal to family campers, sportsmen, and water sport enthusiasts. Created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the reservoir covers 4,000 acres at normal multi-purpose pool and offers some excellent fishing and water sports opportunities along 110 mile Creek. Other amenities include a large playground, nature trail, laundry facilities, nearby reservable picnic shelter, boat launching facilities, and numerous bank-fishing areas. There are 36 camping spaces available. There are Drinking Water, Dump Sites, Hookups, Showers.
The lake outlet is a tributary to the Marais des Cygnes River, (Upper Osage River). The nearest large communities are Emporia and Ottawa.
