Founded: 1886, Population: (2000) 3855, Elevation: 2978 feet. Scott City is the Scott County Seat. Located 35 miles north of Garden City at the intersection of US-83 and K-96. Nearby lies Lake Scott State Park.
Steeped in history, this community derives many of it's attributes from the life giving Oglalla Aquifer below the rolling praire. This major natural resource supplied refreshment to the dinosaurs and buffalo, the Native American and modern ranchers and farmers.
Wild game abounds with pheasants, turkeys, jack rabbits and deer. Native Bison also known as Buffalo are viewable at the park.
The lush green fields of wheat in spring turn gold for harvest in early summer. Grain sorghum (milo) and corn supply the green for summer. When cool weather comes there is the chance for seeing morning mirages where distant farms show up above the horizon and at night the beautiful light mirages leap up light on light.
