Housed in the 1824 Centre House, this museum contains hundreds of items depicting the life of the South Union colony of Shakers which was established in 1807 and closed in 1922. One of only 24 villages established by the sect, the South Union architecture reflects standards of order and cleanliness practiced by this westernmost of the Shaker communities, while other features reflect the Shaker practice of separating the genders. The village took in 6,000 acres of farmland, over 200 buildings, and hosted industries that earned a national reputation for its members. The Museum continues the legacy of this historic community and is open for tours daily, March through December; closed Thanksgiving Day. Located just 10 miles west of Bowling Green.
