This is the oldest institution of higher education in Kentucky, founded in 1798. It occupies a 169-acre campus within the city of Louisville. Almost 10,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 6000 graduate students take classes. The university participates in several intercollegiate sports, and often has one of the best NCAA Division I basketball teams in the country.
