Located about 17 miles north of Shreveport in northwest Louisiana and sits astride the Texas border. It is a large lake, approximately 26,560 acres in size and is about 12 miles wide and 16 miles long.
This one of the more scenic lakes in the state, with lots of fishing, wildlife, wildlife habitat, large areas of moss-covered cypress trees and is rich in history. Among the inhabitants are alligators, beavers, nutria, mink, eagles, ducks, egrets and more. About one-third of the lake is cypress swamp. Marked boat roads leads a person through the beautiful swamps, lily pad fields and into the Big Cypress River at Uncertain, Texas. Record bass have been caught here.
Recreational boating is done at the eastern end where the dam is. There are numerous accesses but limited other facilities.
