Doctors' Hospital began as North Louisiana Sanitarium in 1907 at the corner of Texas Street and Grand Avenue. In 1924 it was moved to its present location at 1130 Louisiana Avenue, but its name was not changed to Doctors' Hospital until 1960. In 1984, Doctors' entered into a lease agreement for management services with Universal Health Services, Inc., the nation's third largest hospital management company.

Doctors' Hospital is a 108 bed, short stay, acute-care, medical/surgical facility with a 24-hour, physician-staffed emergency room. Long-term acute-care is provided on-site through an agreement with Lifecare Hospitals, Inc., which leases beds here within the facility. Doctors' is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the state Regulatory Affairs Department.
