This museum is housed within the brick walls of a cotton mill built in 1873. Two floors of exhibits chronicle the age of Lowell's textile mills and the Industrial Revolution in general. On the first floor an orientation area gives way to a 1920s weave room containing 88 looms operated with belts, shafts and pulleys. Exhibits upstairs present Lowell's history from the pre-industrial period to the present. A slide presentation traces the development of the industrial age. Museum open Monday-Saturday 9:30am-5pm, Sunday 11am-5pm. Closed January 1, Thanksgiving and December 25.
