Chatham Light is located in Chatham Harbor since 1808. The current 48-foot lighthouse tower, made of cast-iron with brick lining, was built in 1877 and was automated in 1982. This tower is the one surviving tower of three sets of twin towers. The two earlier 'twins' succumbed to erosion and deterioration. The 'twin' of the current tower was dismantled and shipped to another location around 1920.
This is an active Coast Guard station. The lighthouse is not open to the public except by special arrangement. Group tours may be scheduled with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Good views of the tower are possible from the surrounding roads. There is a parking lot across the street.
