Tufts-New England Medical Center is a world-class, academic medical institution in Boston. It is home to two full-service hospitals, one serving adults and The Floating Hospital for Children dedicated exclusively to all levels of pediatric care. The Medical Center is also the principal teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. Starting on a rented boat at the beginning of the 20th century, The Floating Hospital for Children first served indigent families with children needing the cleansing and therapeutic qualities of sea air to ward off poor health and specific afflictions. It evolved to become a world pioneer in pediatric care. It expanded its teaching and research through an affiliaion with Tufts University School of Medicine and later the New England Medical Center.
