This museum contains nearly 200 galleries of Asiatic, Egyptian, Classical, European and American paintings and sculpture. Included in the museum's collection are 43 Claude Monets and works by Manet, Picasso, Rembrandt, Renoir, Sargent and Whistler. Among the items of Asian art displayed are paintings, carvings, silk textiles and ornate swords.

The west wing, opened in 1981, was designed by I.M. Pei and houses galleries for special exhibitions and contemporary art.

Open Wednesday-Friday 10am-9:45pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-5:45pm, Monday-Tuesday 10am-4:45pm. Closed Thanksgiving and December 24-25.
