Located at the foot of downtown's historic Federal Hill, this museum is a national repository for artworks created by self-taught artists, and features rotating exhibits of imaginative, creative and intuitive works in both conventional, and unconventional, media. The museum building is as unique as its holdings, its artistic architecture having won several international and national awards for design. An outdoor plaza is highlighted by the 50-foot Vollis Whirligig; a Sculpture Barn and Sculpture Garden add 'dimension' to the museum's offerings. Located on the museum building's third level, the Joy America Cafe offers an organic gourmet menu, as well as an outdoor terrace and a fabulous view of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Both cafe and museum facilities are available for private events by pre-arrangement. The museum facilities are open Tuesday through Sunday.
