This state park, situated on a 6-square-mile man-made lake, includes a natural resources management area. Located at the southernmost end of Meadow Mountain and just west of the Allegheny Front, the park is the site of the historic Brant coal mine and homesite; a restored mine entrance shows a typical drift mine. Most of the park is forested, and species such as black bear, turkey, bobcat, and deer populate the oak and hickory-studded mountain habitat.
Trails take visitors into the forest and to the top of Meadow Mountain; campsites are available spring through fall by reservation. Deep Creek Lake, Maryland's largest, offers a beach and watersports of all kinds, with access for fishing, boating and swimming. The Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center is a new, and unique, environmental interpretive center offering hands-on exhibits relating the area's natural, cultural, and historic heritage as well as many seasonal public programs and activities.
