This 463-acre park provides shelter for a variety of native wildlife that includes muskrats, otters, white-tailed deer, turkeys, foxes and pileated woodpeckers. Plant life ranges from venerable hardwoods to the charming blue flag iris that give the park its name.
Two ponds are highlighted by observation platforms, which are accessible to the public; other recreation at the site includes 3 miles of hiking trails, a wetlands boardwalk, and a visitor center displays interpretive exhibits about area wildlife. Also within the park is a beach where authentic fossil formations can be seen, and a fishing pier on the bay attracts anglers.
Open year-round, closed on Mondays and major holidays.
