This 65-acre wildlife sanctuary and environmental education center is owned and managed by the Maine Audubon Society; the sanctuary takes in meadows, woods, and salt marshes on the banks of the Presumpscot River Estuary,- two miles of on-site trails provide nature study, walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing opportunities. The site also hosts various educational programs throughout the year.
The recently-constructed Environmental Center Building is an example of the latest in 'green' design; the 500-sq-ft visitor center houses the Children's Discovery Room, a Teachers' Resource Center, Nature Store, and natural history exhibits and information. The property is open free of charge daily from dawn to dusk, except during special Society fundraising events; closed major holidays.
