During the summer of 2000, a new building containing the Natural History Museum at the College of the Atlantic was opened. The goal of the Natural History Museum is to investigate and interpret Maine's natural history, through a "human ecological perspective." COA students create impressive dioramas describing the plant and animal life in the state, showing how different species interact with natural and human environments. Hands-on exhibits encourage visitors to touch and dissect materials including baleen, fur, wings, bones, and more.
