This is a partially restored Federal-style house with Victorian Gothic additions. Once this house belonged to Lawrence Chamberlain, a Civil War hero, president of Bowdoin College and governor of Maine during 1867-71. Some of the guests that Chamberlin entertained include Hellen Keller, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Wadsworth, and Gens. George McLellan, William Tecumseh Sherman, Ulysses S. Grant and Phillip Sheridan.
