Atlanta Michigan is a popular vacation and hunting center. Area forest campgrounds and Clear Lake State Park add to the area's attractions, as do Golf and the over 11 great fishing lakes in the area.

Atlanta was named by Alfred J. West of Capac, MI who saw the area while building a road here. In 1881 he bought a section of forest land and built a sawmill. The area reminded him of Atlanta, GA, which he saw while fighting in the Civil War.
