Calumet is located in Houghton County, and in the Northern Region. To find Calumet, head just northwest of Hancock between Hancock and Copper Harbor along Highway 26 near Portage Lake and Lake Superior. Situated in Michigan's Upper Peninsula region.

Calumet shaped itself around the mines of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company and was the home of mainly the officers and employees of the mines.

Calumet is also home to Coppertown USA museum and visitor center, which tells the story of the mines, communities and people of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
