Charlevoix is in Charlevoix County (of which it is the county seat), and in the Northern Region. This town is located north of Traverse City along US Highway 31 near the shoreline of Lake Michigan and Fisherman's Island State Park. Charlevoix was incorporated as a village in 1879 and a city in 1905, Charlevoix continues to grow with the tourist industry and also attract new industrial businesses to the area. The city of Charlevoix is also home to the US Coast Guard Cutter Acacia and the associated Coast Guard station personnel, along with the Beaver Island ferry, while protecting all on the water near the downtown area.
