Gaines is in Genesee County, and in the Central Region (part of the Flint, Michigan metropolitan area). Gaines is part of the Flint, Michigan metro area. You can locate this community on Duffield Road. Also found south of Durand. Gaines was first settled in 1836 by Hartford Cargill and named the town after a General E. P. Gaines, a friend of a local resident. Known for a while as Gaines Station and later as Covert, it was finally incorperated as the village of Gaines in 1902. Gaines has survided all of thes years be becoming a successful farming community, as well as its proximity to Flint.
