Perry is in Shiawassee County, and in the Central Region (is part of the Lansing-East Lansing, Michigan metro. area.) This community is located just northeast of Lansing between Lansing and Flint along Interstate 69 on the banks of the Looking Glass River near Lake Lansing. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,256, an increase of 93 since 1990. Perry was named in honor of Admiral Oliver H. Perry who fought the British in the War of 1812, and was founded in 1850. It became incorporated as a village in 1893. Perry is supported by small business, local manufacturing and its location as a commuter town to Lansing, about ten miles west.
