Sunfield is located in Eaton County, and east of Grand Ledge on Hwy 43. Sunfield is part of the Lansing-East Lansing, Michigan metro area. The first pioneer to this area was Samuel S. Hoyt who arrived here in 1836. A post office was assigned to this area in 1855. It received a station on the Detroit, Grand Rapids & Western Railroad in 1872, which helped assure its longevity. It was incorporated as a village in 1899. Today, Sunfield is a small, agricultural community that includes a major elevator operation along an active railroad line.
