Encompassing nearly 663,000 acres, Chippewa National Forest includes some of the largest lakes in the state -- Winnibigoshish, Leech and Cass -- amd more than 700 smaller bodies of water. Fishing, canoeing, bird watching, water skiing and swimming are popular during the summer. Many trails provide hiking opportunities. Recreational facilities also include hundreds of backcountry camp sites and 26 developed campground and picnicking sites. Information and interpretive programs are available at Norway Beach and Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Centers daily Memorial Day-Labor Day. The 39-mile 'Avenue of Pines' on scenic Hwy 46 runs through the center of the forest.
