This is part of the Gateway Center redevelopment complex. Colored lights pattern its fountain from dusk to midnight. Historically important, this district was the great staging area from which pioneers left to settle the Northwest in the late 1800s -- hence its name. The arched ReliaStar Financial Corp Building is in the complex; it was designed by noted architect Minoru Yamasaki.
