Located near the headwaters of the Mississippi River, Headwaters Science Center is a non-profit facility opened in 1994, dedicated to science education and environmental awareness. HSC offers hands-on, interactive exhibits for learning and fun; a gift shop featuring science-related items, including GEMS activity guides for teachers; a variety of live animals that visitors can touch and feel; Saturday science programs, mostly for kids; environmental learning center for grades 4-12; special programs and demonstrations for children and adults, including the portable planetarium, Starlab; workshops for teachers and other science educators; a water quality testing lab, in partnership with Mississippi Headwaters Board River's Edge Geographic Education Project; After School Science, offering a variety of programs for kids; and Tots-N-Science, a 1-hour activities program for ages 2-5. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 9:30 am-5:30 pm, and Sunday 1-5:00
