In the West Central Lakes Region, Morris is the seat of Stevens County It lies on Hwys 28 and 9, where they meet US 59. Gorder and Long lakes are nearby, as is the Pomme de Terre river. Founded in 1871, Morris received its name from Charles F. Morris, the chief engineer of the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,453, a decrease of 160 since 1990.
