Scandia is located in the Twin Cities Metro Region in Washington County on Hwy 97 near the Wisconsin border, northeast of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

Scandia is the site of the first Swedish settlement in Minnesota. A log cabin was built on the shores of Hay Lake in 1850, and a monument near the site bears the names of the first Swedish settlers.
