The Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum is named in honor of a descendant of a pioneer Joplin family. Dorothea B. Hoover was a widely known historian, preservationist and civic leader. Emphasis in the museum has been placed on the Victorian Era and one is given a realistic picture of an upper middle class family living in the late 1800's. The rooms on display are as follows: Rustic Kitchen, Dinning Room, Office, Adult's Bedroom, and a Miniature room, equipped with everything a little girl could desire. Two additional elegantly decorated rooms reflect America's bicentennial history. The 1776 Room features Williamsburg blue paneling, Chippendale looking glass, eighteenth century settee and 1770 Chippendale cherrywood secretary. An 18th Centu ry Colonial Tavern, "The Sea Griffin" is an authentic old world tavern decorated with Windsor chairs, 200 year-old inlaid gateleg table, pewter accessories and period lighting implements.
