Hedrick Medical Center (HMC) is a licensed 49-bed rural health care facility providing both inpatient and outpatient services. Hedrick is located in Chillicothe (St. Louis County), approximately 60 to 90 minutes from Kansas City.
Chillicothe's first hospital was established by the Sisters of St. Mary and the first patient was admitted on May 17, 1889. In 1916, the Sisters withdrew and Drs. Grace and Simpson bought the hospital which was subsequently donated to the City of Chillicothe in 1936. A new hospital was built in 1936 and was enlarged with the addition of two wings in 1954. A new facility was built in 1972 and the 1936 building became a medical office building.
Since the 1972 construction, two major renovations have occurred, the ICU/PCU wing was built in 1994 and "The New Life Center" update and renovation in 1996. The HMC team consists of 300 plus professionals and support staff who believe that the patient is their primary concern.
