Bernie Public Library, serving an area of 1,760 residents, has a collection of 16,000 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 75 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 310 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Staffing consists of one employee, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $2,600. Patrons make 8,400 visits annually, and check out materials 14,000 times. Twenty-seven percent of all check-outs are children's materials.
