This 55,600-acre lake is Missouri's second largest and one of the Midwest's most popular with its numerous public-use areas offering campgrounds, hiking, marinas, beaches and boat ramps-with many family resorts having direct access to the water.
Surrounded by rugged hills, bluffs and forests, its scenery over its 100,000 acres of public lands is extensive and also offers hunting, hiking, and horseback riding.
The fishing is great with the lake's 9,000 acres of standing timber where the bass and crappie congregate. A Visitors Center is located at the dam.
