As its name implies, Medicine Rocks was a place of "big medicine," where Indian hunting parties conjured up magical spirits. "As fantastically beautiful a place as I have ever seen," wrote Teddy Roosevelt in the late 1800's.
Weathering has given the soft sandstone rock formations a Swiss-cheese look. The park is also a haven for mule deer, antelope, and sharp tailed grouse. There are 12 campsites, but no fee is charged as the park is designated "primitive."
The park is located 12 miles south of Baker or 14 miles north of Ekalala at Milepost 10 of MT Hwy 7, then a mile west on county road.
