The Ruby Reservoir in SW Montana offers a barely developed campground with primitive toilets on Ruby Reservoir, about 12 miles west of Virginia City. The reservoir was developed to supply irrigation to ranches and is therefore subject to large fluctuations in depth. Water should be carried in. Good fishing for trout when water level permits. Remote location receives only moderate use. Peaceful, with willows along the shoreline but the remainder treeless. There is a boat access to the reservoir, which is stocked with trout. Pets are permitted on leash only.
Ruby Reservoir is 9 miles south of Alder on paved county road. Open all year.
