A destination not to be missed, Yellowstone National Park is the world's first national park, set aside in 1872 for all future generations. Its 2.2 million acres include spectacular alpine lakes and rivers, as well as the geysers, mud cauldrons and bubbling paint pots that are its signature attractions. About a quarter of all the world's geysers can be found between Madison Junction and Old Faithful.
Although the park is primarily in Wyoming, the major entrances are through Montana: West Yellowstone on the west and Gardiner on the north.
