Coatzacoalcos is located in the state of Veracruz in east central Mexico, at the mouth of the Coatzacoalcos River. As port on the Gulf of Campeche, and with good highway communications, it joins Minatitcan as the center of Mexicos petroleum and petrochemical industry. Oil, petrochemical products, sulfur, and timber are produced and exported. The city was formerly known as Puerto Mexico.
