Colima is located south of Guadalajara in the Mexican state of the same name. The "Volcn de Fuego de Colima" which reaches to more than 13,000 feet, is an active volcano located nearby. The Volcn de Colima began erupting millions of years ago and continues today. Since the arrival of the Spanish there have been approximately 30 eruptions, which makes it one of the most active volcanos in world. Colima means "god of fire who rules", hence the name of the city and state.
Colima has a population of approximately 160,000 people and it's pleasant tree-lined streets and many comfortable residential areas make it a popular destination. The city has a full range of tourist services with many pleasant hotels and several good restaurants.
