The town of Riverview was created in 1973 by combining the villages of Riverview Heights, Bridgedale, and Gunningsville. The population of the town is around 16000, making it the fourth largest municipality in New Brunswick. Riverview is mainly residential, but contains some light industry and business, such as shopping malls and medical and dental centres.
Riverview has two arenas; cross country skiing trails; the Riverview Aquatic Centre, which contains a junior Olympic swimming pool; and a major golf club. It is one of the best known New Brunswick towns in which to raise a family, as the education and facilites are high above average. Riverview is also nearby the Petitcodiac River and the Fundy National Park.
