Founded in 1899, Appalachian State University is a member of the University of North Carolina System. It provides instruction to more than 10,000 full-time undergraduates on its 255-acre campus with 80 buildings.
The vast majority of students are from North Carolina. In addition to extensive on-campus housing, a number of fraternities and sororities have chapters. The school is involved in intercollegiate sports for both men and women. Communications, management, and elementary education are popular majors.
