North Carolina's oldest tourist attraction, the rock, an immense cliff 4,000 feet above sea level, overhangs the Johns River Gorge, 3,000 feet below. The site features an observation tower, gardens and gift shop.

The area is said to be the only place where snow falls upward. Lightweight objects cast over the cliff will return to the thrower when uprising air currents are present.
