Frisco is located in Dare County on Hatteras Island between Buxton and Hatteras along Highway 12 on the shore of the Pamlico Sound within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Pond.
General Billy Mitchell is honored with an airfield named for him at Frisco. This famed Army Air Service officer used the local airstrip to bomb battleships off the coast on September 5, 1923. This act was one of the major factors leading to the establishment of the modern United States Air Force.
