Cando, founded in 1884, is the county seat of Towner County in north central North Dakota about 35 miles south of the Canadian border.
The town was created by the county to be the county seat and takes its name from the "Can Do" spirit of those pioneers.
Cando claims to be the "official" "Duck Capital North Dakota" due its location along a major migratory bird flyway. It is also within 30 minutes drive of about a dozen minor lakes as well as the larger Devils Lake.
Other outdoor activities include shooting rounds of Cando Golf Club, a 9-hole layout built in 1930 and open to the public.
