The refuge encompasses marshlands and lakes as well as prairie and woodlands. Deer, coyotes, waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds, including the rare Baird's sparrow, seek refuge in the bottom lands. Sharp-tailed grouse can be seen on their dancing grounds in the spring; check with the refuge manager for the period when the grouse are most active and for the use of a photography blind. Deer hunting is permitted by license in season.
Office open Monday through Thursday 7am-5pm, Friday 7am-4pm; closed holidays.
