Lake Ashtabula is located in eastern North Dakota just over 10 miles north of Valley City and is a product of the damming of the Sheyenne River by the Bald Hill Dam.
The Army Corps of Engineers operates seven recreation areas and manages 13 separate wildlife areas which allows for a nice variety of activities and sets the tone for quality habitat and the use of the Corps' facilities and services.
Fishermen can take a variety of species including white bass, black bullhead, yellow perch, northern pike, and the ever-popular walleye. In addition, hunters like their chances for limits on ducks and geese.
