Wishek is located in southern North Dakota in northern McIntosh County about 80 miles southeast of Bismarck.
The town has a strong German-Russian ethnic heritage which is celebrated annually with "Sauerkraut Day" on the second Wednesday of October. The event was begun in 1925 and treats all comers with free sauerkraut, wieners, "speck" (a poor man's bacon) plus all the side dishes the culture is famous for including Kuchen, a fruit and custard pizza (without the tomato sauce).
Outdoor recreation includes trips to Green Lake and Doyle Memorial State Park about 10 miles southeast of town. In addition, Beaver Valley Golf Club invites the general public to play their 9-hole, par 33, 2,200-yard course. They are open for play from March 1st through October 15th.
