LaMoure county is located in southeastern North Dakota with LaMoure serving as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 4,700, a decrease of 683 over the 1990 census.
The largest recreational venue in the county is man-made, 500-acre Lake LaMoure (fed from the west by Cottonwood Creek) in the southeastern portion of the county close to the Dickey County line.
