Renville county is located in northwestern North Dakota with Mohall used as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 2,799, a decrease of 361 over the 1990 census.
The most significant feature of the county is Lake Darling created by the damming of the Mouse River just south of the Ward County line. The lake was responsible for the creation of the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge on the lake's southern end.
