Rolette county is located on the Canadian border in north central North Dakota and utilizes Rolla as its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 14,229, an increase of 1,457 over the 1990 census.
Being in the Lakes and Gardens Region, Rolette county has a handful of lakes in the southeast corner including Long Lake and Island Lake. In addition, Will and Capenter Lakes are located to the north.
Several small creeks cross the county in generally a northeast to southwest direction. These have names such as Ox, Wolf and Willow Creeks.
The county is the home for the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation to the northeast.
